it's only complicated if YOU choose for it to be...(just say'in)

Well before I delve into the reason behind the title let me just say what a beautiful day today is! God is so good. How can you awake to a beautiful sunrise, birds chirping, and the smell of mother nature and not feel blessed?

Had a great night at work last night. Slow but fun. I do enjoy the people I work with. No games last night but forgot to update tuesdays results. Both the 9th grade FB and the 7th grade FB lost that night :/ Wednesday was just filled with practices and meetings. Dad was in charge of all after school events since I was working. Grades for midterms came home. Both kids did well. So proud. Walk was good this morning! Boy is the sun bright in the morning.

While walking my friend and I were discussing Facebook and peoples' status'. I find them interesting. I usually give a lot of thought to my status' except those provoked by another then I act impulsively. I do try not to "PUKE" all over FB land though. And I relly don't have 'dirty laundry' that gets aired. I save that for here ;) (lucky you!) But the ones that intrigue me the most are the RELATIONSHIP STATUS', especially if they're updated by a preteen or teenager. My son recently updated his own to "In A Relationship". Really? You're in a relationship?! You're 12? How's that working out? Something tells me before too much longer there'll be a change reporting to all of FB land that he's "single". And then there are those kids who list their status as "In a relationship but it's complicated". Again...Really? A complicated relationship? Never heard of such a thing! (sarcasm) What relationship isn't complicated to some extent? But if you're married...You're married...you're bound to have complications. If you find your self on a rocky road if you will, which is possible I have to wonder is the FB relationship status the best place to advertise that info? I don't know...just wondering, just thinking aloud. I also am privy to all the Love fests going on! You know the status' that declare "__________ is my life! they complete me!" blech! Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for love and romance and all but I highly doubt that there's a preteen/teen out there that's been completed by another. When I read some of these status' I want to chime in with my own version of the "that's what she said" game only I'll be saying "this week...." So & so completes me 'this week'. I'm in a relationship 'this week'. I <3 ___________ 'this week'.

Come on kids. Get a perspective on what it takes to be in a relationship. What it means to be a partner. Just saying it, declaring it doesn't make it so. And furthermore...what's the hurry. Now is the time to be relationship free! To learn who you are so that when the time comes for you to go deeper in your relationships you're more self-assured and secure with who YOU are that's when you'll be the best you for a relationship. Until then...I'll continue to use you all as examples for my own children. Again just my opinion.

Feeling blessed today for all the people God has put in my path at some point in my 44 years. If you're one of them, know you've been a blessing to me and I thank God for you and your uniqueness! May you have a blessed day!

feel the chill

It was about 60 degrees when I walked today and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. What a beautiful morning outside. Inside this morning was a bit frustrating. Free will aka Matthew and I went around and around this morning. Why must he frustrate just for the sake of frustrating. It has to be for frustrations sake because there was no other LOGICAL reason for his obstinate behavior! End result of said behavior, I drove him to school, remainder of morning was quiet, and I was slightly delayed in arriving for my walk. However he arrived at school on time. Now how he conducted himself once inside the building I'll probably never know. Kate on the other hand up, dressed and waiting for her ride patiently & quietly. As of 8:50a.m. my house was down to only 1 occupant.

As I walked this morning I was pondering what it would be like to just wake up, only concern yourself with YOU and get ready. Pretty much these are the conditions my husband faces every morning. While I'm waking up the kids, packing lunches, and constantly moving them along he is upstairs catching a few extra zzzzzz's. 9/10 mornings he misses all the chaos. With that said many times when I return home from my walk he's preparing to leave for the day and amazingly he is GRUMPY! Really?! I just want to ask him...."so, what happened? did you piss yourself off this morning?" Now, I usually get ready for my work day while alone in the house also and I usually do it without pissing myself off.

You see here's where my beloved & I differ. And here's where I don't get most people.
Now, I was frustrated this morning but I experienced the frustration and was done with it. For gosh sakes it was only 7:15 and I had the majority of my day ahead of me. I was going to be alone for a good part of the day and I don't enjoy a pissy me any more than anyone else does. So I made a choice. I chose to not be pissy. The moment came & went. Done & Done if you will. What good could come from me continuing in a mood? Yet, as I telephoned home to see if the hubby wanted to go out for breakfast I was greeted with annoyance in his tone. When I arrived home (delayed by my driving around hoping he'd leave before I got there) I was met with crabbiness. I felt bad for him for he's in for a loooong day and possibly a crappy one at that. Hopefully someone will share a smile with him and his outlook will turn around. (i tried...no luck)

Random thought: I can't seem to get into the whole treadmill, stationary bike craze. I've tried both. Every time I go to the wellness center I hop on the treadmill ready to get my walk on. UGH!!!! I hate it! Not the walking but the not going anywhere. Talk about frustrating. I don't know about you but when I walk I'd like to feel like I'm getting somewhere! literally. I'll occasionally look down at the little red dots depicting my "distance around the track" (ha!) and I just get annoyed. I've not turned a corner, I don't see the next corner, my view hasn't changed therefore I'm going NO WHERE! Talk about frustrating. Based on my annoyance with the treadmill I'm pretty confident that spinning is out of the question! You can bet your sweet bippy if i've pedaling that hard, sweating that much I had better be getting somewhere! Now many of you will tell me "oh you're getting somewhere, with the calories you burn..." yeah yeah, but give me a path, points A & B and send me on my way! And what's with the Lazyboy biker? I'm sure there's a purpose, although to be completely honest I'm really not interested in what it is. I'd rather just enjoy my inner snickering and thoughts...you know like 'I'd really like to get out & ride my bike, if only i could get out of this chair!....OH? you mean I can bike while sitting in a chair?! I'm in!' Well, this whole exercise thing is a process. This I know for sure. I used to be all fit, believe it or not, into body building and all so I know what it takes. More than anything it takes a willing/wanting attitude if a difference is to be made. I just hope I can hang onto that attitude until I achieve my personal goal. Who knows perhaps by that time new habits will be formed.

Praises: my friend who had the spot on the lung is clear as it was just scar tissue!
Prayer: D tore his hamstring, & crabby people! ;P
Loves: my in-laws, church family, family & pets and good friends.

Cheer up a crabby person today & if you're the crabby one ...STOP! chose to not be!

bring on the fall...

Well the last big weekend of summer is in the record books. The Van Ness family did a variety of things. We kicked it off with some OH football on Friday night and the Eagles came away with a CIC victory against Ole Miss. Kathryn spent the night & weekend with a friend and they went to Holiday World. Matthew spent Sat. & Sun. with his grandpa & grandma while Andy & I headed north to South Bend for the PU v. ND game. While the Boilermakers came up with out the W they showed a lot of promise. Yay for the start of College football season! On the return trip home we stopped at the Hazelwoods for a cookout. Sunday involved church, dinner with Ed & EJ. Kate got home around 3 and at 6 we were off to the Crauns for another cookout. I do enjoy a bonfire, grilled food, toasted marshmallows and good conversation. Monday was enjoyable and we didn't even do anything special! Slept in as all alarms were turned off! and just did what needed to be done about the house.

Today is a new day! perfect weather for walking! and even better I got some new kicks that really seem to be helping my sore foot issues. woo hoo! I've got a lot going on today. Random stuff that typically I'm not at all a fan of. But stuff that must be done nonetheless. It's suppose to be a warm one today. Sure hope the wind sticks around to make it more tolerable.

On the school front, mid-terms go home tomorrow. I must say I'm proud of the grades so far. Matthew has a motivator...football! hopefully it'll continue to motivate him.
I'm already looking forward to fall break! I'm sure we'll remain home bound but I do enjoy just being together!

I'm sadly approaching the end of a series of books written by Jen Lancaster. I've slowed down my reading so that I can make it last. I've no idea what I want to read next. She, Lancaster has mentioned a few books in her writings I might look in to.

Relationships: Andy & I are approaching our 15 year anniversary. I don't know about anyone else but this excites me. I've been so blessed to have him in my life. Kate is not dating :) and Matt is being perused by many yet isn't really interested in any. :) It's going to be interesting as the kids begin this whole "interested in the opposite sex" stage. Some advice: Boys interested in Kathryn, don't show signs of stupidity. She's a strong, funny, self-assured, intelligent young lady who isn't very tolerant of "dumb". Girls interested in Matt, don't be pushy or indecisive. And to both sexes...it's best to not piss of the mom. (& dad for that matter)

Well, much to do today...so I'm off.
