After my 2mi walk this morning my friend Heather & I were discussing books. Sadly due to the measly amount remaining on her B&N gift card she's been reduced to reading the freebies for her electronic book thingy. Smut as she referred to it. You know, Romance Novels. This of course made for interesting conversation. :P And it got me thinking (go figure) with all the hot & bothered romance that takes place in these books I'm convinced that they are written by 1) virgins or 2) extremely frustrated women. Why? well lets get real shall we. After a certain age foreplay becomes something other than anything like what is written. Few men could ever measure up to the leading man in the novel. And really, who has time & energy for all of that anyway! It's the stuff that dreams are made of. lol. Perhaps that's why I don't bother with any of it. The potential for disappointment in an area that's not at all disappointing would be there so why go down that road. ;) I'll just keep it all real with my man.
I suppose the same could be said about chick flicks and tv/movie romances. I do love the chick flick but have to keep it real. I often find myself "breaking it" to my daughter that seldom does it, love, happen as it does in the movie. The guy usually isn't that dreamy, certainly not that romantic, and real life doesn't even come close in comparison. Not that there isn't the potential for the knight in shining armor but even the best silver tarnishes and most metals dent. Even the most ideal mate won't make for the most ideal life. Happiness with oneself 1st will allow you to find happiness with others. Being accepting and acknowledging ones own imperfections allows us to me tolerant of those in others.
Well, 173 days left. I passed on last nights meet the teacher events. I found it interesting though the time frame of it all. HS met from 6:30-8; JH met 6-7:30 with PTO meeting afterward @ 7:35. I have kids at both schools. The recommendation on the letter for parents w/ kids at both places was to see HS teachers at 7:30 so it would be possible to attend the JH session 6-7:25. Hummm...but what if I'm interested in attending the PTO meeting you know the PARENT Teacher Organization. Now here's why this is interesting to me. Most know I worked at the JH for 4 years. The P's of this organization were not really encouraged to attend. A "T" I know who attended as a "P" was advised to NOT (yes you read correctly) attend or get involved. Further more "P"'s are picked by the JH Principal to act as Pres. & VP. So I found it interesting that parents would be discouraged (if you will) in attending the PTO meeting. Really I only wanted to attend the meeting. As it is the only one that is usually held based on past years. I was curious to see if anything had changed and was looking forward to offering up ideas on how to have a successful active PTO. But decided I really didn't want the fight. ...with the head "P".
I didn't attend Kates meet the teacher either. I've already met them. They're nice & competent. And I walked her schedule w/ her the day before school started so I didn't feel it necessary to do it again.
Matt didn't drink his spark yesterday....when he got home he was one dead dog. :/ I don't think he'll make that mistake again. Well, if you can call it a mistake. He forgot to take his lunch in the morning so I dropped it off to him at the school. At 11 am.. Lunch is at 11:25. Plenty of time right...WRONG! The office didn't get it to him before lunch and had the helper take it to him with about 10 min. left. At this point he had already gone through the lunch line. No wonder he felt like crap yesterday!
Well...that's it for me today...I just don't want to type anymore! ;)

The numbers are falling...
174 days of school left this school year. & 234 lbs down from 248. woo hoo.
That is where we are with this Wednesday edition of "would you like fries with that?"
Now this is kinda exciting. I've never really been a numbers person before. I'm all about the people. However since taking the 24 day challenge I've become more aware and somewhat inspired by the decreasing numbers. This is my 24th day. I feel great and i've lost 14 lbs. I had hoped for 15 but hey, the day's not over with yet. And 14 isn't too shabby. Prior to the 24 day challenge NO WAY would I have wanted to or even attempted to walk any distance for any other reason than to get to said destination. And honestly I would've huffed & puffed and been pissy about it. Not any more. Day 8 of the challenge I really felt like I needed to get up & do something. Walking was my answer. Day 1 = 1 mile; Day 2 = 2 miles; Day 3 & 4 = 3 miles. Today is day 5 and I'm taking the day off because of other things that have come up but I am looking forward to tomorrow. And next week who knows perhaps 4 miles will be walked! In addition to the lost pounds I feel great and it seems as though I've lost inches. Sure wish I would've measured my parts prior to starting this program but here's what I know. I've been an 18 for most of my post children years. And a comfortable one at that. It was a friendly number. I could still wear it somewhat comfortably at my heaviest 248 and even more comfortable at 225. However at this new 235/234 number my trusty old size 18's are extremely roomier. I promise I've NOT dropped a load in my pants nor am I getting in touch with my inner thug...my pants just droop! & That my friends is a good thing.
174 days left in this school year. It's like counting down until Christmas for me. I've never been a huge fan of summer (humidity) but as my children grow older I sure do enjoy hanging around them. Time with Matthew is comforting & comical & trying. Just being with that kid is comforting to me. I'm not sure why exactly. We don't always have to have dialogue. Just knowing he's hanging with me gives me a sense of peace. Comical because he comes up with some crazy things and when you least expect it. Trying at times because he's a mini-me. Looks like a Van Ness and acts like me.
oi vey! Not sure I know how to handle "me" as few including myself have ever had much success. With Kathryn it's like we have some sort of super power! Completely corny but it's totally true. Often we know what the other is thinking, we say the same thing at the same time and no matter how obscure we often recall a moment in time that becomes pertinent once more. These things tend to annoy the boys in our family. We however get a kick out of them. Kathryn is very much like her daddy. That fact is promising as he's one of the finest humans I know. So, I'll continue to count down until we get our time together again, sleeping in, swimming, vacationing, and hitting the camp circuit.
Today is off to a great start! Skies are blue, sun is peeking through and temps are tolerable.

Walk n & talk n ...great start to the day
176 to go...Check that 175 as I forgot to post yesterday...this is a 2 parter!
Beautiful day today! finally a break in the heat! Beautiful skies and the sound of the worlds loudest cricket in our office! Really...come'on cricket, take it out side it's beautiful out! The ladies and I walked 1 additional mile today...3miles! woo hoo & yay I feel great! So thankful to have ladies to walk with. It certainly makes the time and walk far more doable. The extra mile can be attributed to the construction taking place on the bridge. Perhaps a sign indicating "bridge out" would've been helpful. ...just a thought.
Took my kids to school today for the 1st time this year. FUN! we giggled and laughed all the way there. Hopefully that'll make for a good day for the both of them. Matthew has to present his monologue to his Literature class tomorrow. I'm trying to get him to sing it ala Taylor Swifts Saturday Night Live monologue but he doesn't seem to think he can make it through it without cracking up! But it would be memorable.
tuesday: 175 left in the school year count down! all went surprisingly well again this morning. I'm always hesitant to type that! for fear it'll backfire on me. Today I got in another 3 miles! kinda exciting. Perhaps I could've gone a bit further had I had my good shoes & had worn socks. As it was only 3 & a menacing blister on the ball of my right foot.
Yesterday while walking I was telling the ladies about how most of our meals during the 24 day challenge have consisted of a steamed veggie via the microwave and grilled chicken with barbecue sauce. Needless to say when Andy asks' what was for supper & i rattled off the same old option he is less than pleased. Well thanks to Heather who was sharing her supper option which was chicken in the oven drizzled with honey and topped with bread crumbs, I got an inspiration. When I got home from walking I loaded up the crock pot with chicken breast, squeezed a liberal amount of honey mustard on top and topped all of that with crumbled Italian flavored croutons. One word...YUM! A total hit! Even with the kids as they fought over who would be eating the last piece. This is certainly a must do for future meals. So easy and oh so tasty!
