prodigies are few and far...most, if not all preteens/teens still need to learn and develop skills...no matter the gene pool. with that said....
Coach. ugh. don't compare the athlete, their ability, effort (as you see it), desire (as you see it) etc... to that of someone else in their family - past or present. My child is learning he has a desire and willingness to do so. Yet, seems to be less than encouraged to do so. As a parent I've implored with my kids to keep focus on their desire. If they want to be a part of the team, play the sport, participate in the dance, etc.... I've said to them time & time again to NOT allow someone else's opinion of their ability dictate weather or not they play/participate. If you enjoy something and desire to do it you must continue to work at it, take steps necessary toward improvement and ....with luck that improvement will come and the payoff will be there.
Jr. high/High school is the time to develop, learn, improve. Neither of my children are prodigies. Neither are the best. Both have the desire and hart and sportsmanship, team mentality that speaks louder than many with a natural talent. Now is the time to teach skills, develop, coach, ENCOURAGE.
Frustrated again, :/ as is my kid. Hoping he'll continue to follow MY advice, keep at it, NOT give up because he's NOT his uncle and continue to work on his abilities (in spite of) and PLAY.
