responsibility...

where does one draw the line on responsibility? i'm just wondering. i just heard a news report about a woman suing the bar and the bartender who served the guy who drove drunk and hit her 12-13 shots. tragic no matter how you look at it but where does the responsibility lie?

i serve up food to chubby folk like myself all the time. does that make me responsible for their obesity? or what if they choke on the bread stick i suggested they order and die? is that on me?

i seldom serve a minor without an adult present as most folks dine as a family. and the chubby adults i serve order what they want more often then what they need. they are responsible enough to do so. food/drink whatever it is we make decisions and i've never known a decision --even a simple one-- to not have a consequence. but how far back does the blame go?

the person that drinks and drives and causes an accident (imo) is the one responsible. the buck stops there.

sadly i feel too many choose to look elsewhere to place blame...and the pessimist in me wonders about the true motive behind most claims.

be responsible.

I, too, am dismayed by the "sue-happy" mentality of our society. But that's easily said until it happens to one of us. Two years ago, we lost our 16-year-old niece to a drunk driver...The accident itself got a lot of coverage state-wide due to the severity of the wreck and because of the vast amount of alcohol that the driver had consumed. The driver is now serving a small amount of jail time. And, yes, the bar was sued because they continued to serve Jeigermaister after Jeigermaister to a man who was so obviously inebriated. But at the end of the day, nothing brings back Katherine Ann... so, there you go~
