so here's a thought

as i continue to ponder my previous post i've tried to go over in my brain options that would be feasible and perhaps cut back the number of those who become inebriated and would possibly drive drunk and here's what i've come up with...(just some thoughts)

what if....before purchasing a drink you had to agree to blow into a breathalyzer to determine weather or not you were intoxicated. if it was clear then set a limit on the number of alcoholic beverages. .....or what if....upon purchasing you were giving a bracelet and it was 'punched' and after so many punches you're done.

again, just thoughts. drinking and driving is a lose lose situation. and there's no clear cut answer or solution but i do believe there is more that can be done on the business end to protect not only the establishment and those who work there but also those who choose to drink. alcohol is however a drug so why just because you're of 'age' is the intake of it not better monitored at businesses.

i know drinking at home, parties, events, etc...is a whole other situation but you've got to start somewhere. responsibility.

In our own situation, the driver in Kate's accident had already been convicted of DUI 2 times before he killed Kate. A large group of her friends lobbied (Don't you just love the righteous passion of teenagers?!) to somehow mandate breathalyzers for people who had been charged with a DUI. Basically, the ignition wouldn't start if they breathed over the legal limit. Alas, to no avail... nothing got passed. At least they tried with commitment!!

This is certainly a situation where you wish there was a clear cut solution. unfortunately it, like many others requires a sense of responsibility on EVERYones part and some folks just don't think, care or whatever.

So unfortunate for those who are left with a loss and insurmountable suffering.

perhaps someday a change will be made.
